4 pieces of brown pitta bread
1 clove garlic, cut in half
75ml extra virgin olive oil
6 fillets smoked mackerel (approx. 125g each)
For the avocado relish:
3 Hass avocados, skin and stone removed and roughly diced
½ small cucumber, seeds removed and diced
1 Granny Smith apple, peeled and diced finely
2 spring onions, finely sliced
Juice of a lemon
A small handful flat leaf parsley, roughly chopped
For the horseradish cream:
100g crème fraîche
2-3 heaped tsp freshly grated horseradish or good quality horseradish sauce
Squeeze of lemon juice
Dash of olive oil
A good pinch of sea salt and a good grinding of black pepper
